MyCarMate ("we", "us", "the app") helps car owners manage their vehicles and lets people who scan a car's QR code contact the owner without knowing personal info. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. It applies to the MyCarMate mobile app and the MyCarMate website (my-carmate.com).

Information we collect
Account information you provide:
- Name
- Email address
- Phone number (optional) maybe used in upcoming versions to verify accounts
- Password (stored securely by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see it in plain text)
Vehicle information you add:
- Car name, model, color, and license plate (no govern documents needed)
- Fuel logs (dates, amounts, prices, mileage, station, notes)
- Maintenance logs (dates, service type, cost, parts, place, mileage, invoices)
- Parking locations you choose to save for parking location
- A public contact code/QR for each car
Messages and contact:
- Messages exchanged between a car owner and someone who scans their car's QR code, including any images sent in those messages (only registered users can do this)
- If you contact an owner as a visitor, you will pick only from the templates
Technical information:
- A device notification token (Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can send you push notifications about new messages
- Basic error and usage information needed to operate the service
We collect location information only when you actively use the "save parking location" feature, and only to store the location you choose to save. We do not track your location in the background.
How we use your information
- To provide the app's features (managing cars, logs, messaging, notifications)
- To deliver push notifications about new messages
- To operate the QR-contact system that lets people reach a car owner
- To provide customer support
- To keep the service safe (spam/abuse prevention, moderation of reported messages, and a profanity filter on messages)
We do not sell your personal information. We do not show third-party ads in the app. We do not use your data for advertising.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored using Google Firebase (Firestore, Authentication, Cloud Storage, and Cloud Messaging), operated by Google. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Google's infrastructure security applies to data at rest. See Google's privacy practices at policies.google.com/privacy.
Sharing
We share information only:
- Between a car owner and a visitor who contacts them, as needed for the messaging feature (e.g., an owner sees the visitor's name and messages)
- With Google Firebase, our hosting and infrastructure provider
- If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users
Message content and moderation
Messages may be reviewed if a user reports them, in order to enforce our rules and keep the community safe. Owners can block visitors, and visitors can be blocked from contacting a car again. We apply an automated profanity filter.
Your rights and choices
- Access and update: You can view and edit your profile and vehicle data in the app at any time.
- Notifications: You can turn notifications on or off in the app, globally or per car, and in your device settings.
- Delete your account and data: You can permanently delete your account and all associated data directly in the app: My Account → Delete My Account. This removes your profile, cars, fuel and maintenance logs, parking data, and your conversations. You may also request deletion by emailing info@my-carmate.com. Children
MyCarMate is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact info@my-carmate.com and we will delete it.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data from our active systems as described above. Some records may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here and update the "Effective date." Significant changes will be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate.
